TCCD Riverside Campus
Fort Worth, Texas
Tarrant County College District constructed a new college campus in Downtown Fort Worth. The new campus consists of multiple structures and range from several stories below grade to three stories above grade. In addition to the campus itself, the Belknap bridge was constructed allowing traffic to travel over the below grade plaza. The plaza services the general public along with students. The plaza boast of numerous water features and allows access to the Trinity River.
Prior to placing the foundations, the southern portion of the campus was excavated to depths between 20 and 65 feet. The foundation design required straight shaft piers advancing to depths of 30 to 65 feet. The buildings consist of structurally suspended floor systems, post tensioned floor systems and slab-on-grade floor systems. The walls of the buildings are constructed with pre-cast panels and glass. The paving design called for concrete surfaces over lime treated subgrades.
During the construction phase, extensive construction materials testing, observation and oversight services were provided. The testing program included soil sampling, observation and testing, drilled shaft observation, reinforcing steel observation, post-tension pre-placement observation, post-tension stressing, concrete observation and testing, masonry testing, visual and torque testing for structural steel and ground penetrating radar locating for post-placement coring. |
