Due to individual project experience of the firm principals of over 40 years in the DFW Metroplex, our firm is routinely retained to consult on forensic issues associated with building foundations, floor slabs, pavements, roofs, retaining walls, surface drainage problems, flatwork movement at building entries, sub-drainage issues and excessive moisture issues related to impervious floor coverings that deteriorate or de-bond due to excessive moisture within or below the concrete slab. The following forensic studies have been performed.
- building foundation movement,
- floor slab movement,
- pavement failures,
- roof failures,
- retaining wall failures,
- surface drainage problems,
- levee failures,
- embankment failures,
- flatwork movement at building entries,
- sub-drainage problems.
The following topics are addressed during each forensic study:
- cause of the problem,
- construction or design negligence, if applicable,
- all available alternatives for repair,
- repair limitations, and
- performance duration after repair.
Special Forensic Studies
In addition to the relatively common forensic studies indicated above, we have the capability of evaluating unusual problems which includes defending innocent parties from frivolous claims. Special forensic studies include the following.
- Moisture related problems for impervious floors, epoxy polymer floors, painted floors or tiled floors placed on concrete slabs experiencing excessive MVT (moisture vapor transmission).
- Defense of frivolous claims related to vibration caused by construction activities.
- Pre-construction Building Surveys prior to tunnelling or performing deep excavation near adjacent structures.
